Farming Activities within the project

Food is very healthy and is a very basic need. The project is not left behind in realising this and therefore decided to have some little farming activities that was advantageous to itself and to the entire community. The project has Poultry(Both layers and broilers), Fish farming and Dairy cattle rearing.

Poultry Farming

The rearing of poultry especially the layers started in the year 2000 with a number of 100 layers to feed. Since then it has kept growing in number and as at now the project rears around 300 layers at ago. The egg production has been on the rise since then with the project selling the eggs at rates that are affordable to the community. A tray of egg goes for Ksh.210 which is affordable.

With the market demand for broilers, the project decided to expand its rearing to accomodate the need for broilers. The project was initiated in the year 2008 with a total of 150 broilers and the demand still increases. Each broiler goes for Ksh.300.

Dairy Cattle

Milk is a protein kind of food that the body really needs. The project rears a freshian type of diary cattle. The milk production is at the rate of 7 litres per day. The regular births of the cattle has brought into being two more dairy cows as at now. The selling rate of milk is quite low to allow the common man purchase with a litre going for Ksh.100. The feeds for these cattle is locally produced.

Cattle rearing
Fish Farming

The fish farm started in the year 2003 with the aim of producing larger fish inorder to compete with the local market around the lake region. The first harvest was good but since then there has been alot of deterioration of the catch because of poor weather condition and negligence of the site. As at now very little of the production is taking place.
